Parameter and Option Groups

RDS lets us add Parameter groups and Option groups to our RDS instance.

Parameter groups are used to configure the database engine specific settings. Option groups are used to add plugins to the database.

Let's take a look at how to use these with our MySQL database to enable auditing and logging.

CloudWatch

Let's start by taking a look at what we can already see in CloudWatch.

step 1:

Navigate to the CloudWatch dashboard

step 2:

Click on Log groups

You should be able to see the database error and metric logs, even though we enabled logging for slow query, general, and audit.

So only some of our logs are here, we'll have to fix that. But at least we can view metrics.
